Hi Parents and Students,
This page will hold field trip information as it becomes available so you can plan in advance. Check back as often as you need!
Ohlone Presentation: Friday, October 16, 2009
This is a field trip that comes to us! Keith Gutierrez will present all about the Ohlone People. The presentation is mostly indoors, but portions (including fire making and an Ohlone game that kids played) will take place outside. He will be here from 8:30-10:00. All students will need to arrive at 8:15 on this day. PM students will be dismissed at their regular time of 2:50. The cost of the presentation is $8.10 per student. Please send in your payment anytime before the 16th of October. Send cash or make checks payable to: Matthew Lindner.
Foothills Park: Friday, October 23, 2009
After our presentation from Mr. Gutierrez, we will embark on an expedition to Foothills Park to answer the question: could we survive as the Ohlone did? All students will be on the EARLY READER schedule on this day. We will need to leave Palo Verde at 8:30 to arrive at 9:00 as our tour starts at 9:30. Our tour will end at 12:00, at which time we will have lunch. We will need a few drivers for this trip. We will also need a 3-4 parents who would feel comfortable supervising activities during the activity rotations. Students will be split into three groups, so don’t be put off by the prospect of supervising 20 kids (gee, I wonder what that’s like?!). The cost of the trip is $10.75 per student. You can send in payment anytime before October 24th. Send cash or make checks payable to: Matthew Lindner.
Project Look: Tuesday, November 10, 2009
We will experience Art of the Fantastic at the Palo Alto Art Center (1313 Newell Road) at 10:45. Our tour will end at 12:15. Last year, we walked to PAAC because it really is quite close to us. It took about 40 minutes each way, but allowed us to experience our lovely neighborhood in Palo Alto, as well as receive a nice workout to and from the art center! For this to happen again, we will need about 10 chaperones. This would be ideal. If we are unable to secure enough walking chaperones, we will need only 3-4 chaperones/drivers. The cost is $2.00 per student. Send cash or make checks payable to: Matthew Lindner.
California Academy of Science: Thursday, April 22, 2010
To coincide with the teaching of the Sun, Moon, and Stars FOSS science unit, Mrs. Swagerty will be arranging a field trip to the California Academy of Science in San Francisco. We plan to watch the show at the planetarium, which will be geared specifically to 3rd-5th graders, as well as have enough time to explore the rest of the academy. We will probably need parent drivers. I am still looking in to the possibility of using public transit. I will update you when more information arrives. The cost will be $4.95 PER PERSON. Please send cash payment or make cheques payable to: Matthew Lindner
Old Palo Alto/Stanford University: May or June 2009
In the spring we will be learning about the beginnings of Palo Alto and Stanford University. To go along with this, we will take a trip to a few historic sights on the Stanford campus and will see El Palo Alto near the downtown Caltrain station. We ask for $4.50 per student to cover the cost of car parking for drivers and entrance fee to Hoover Tower for each student and up to 5 adults. Please send cash or make cheques payable to: Matthew Lindner on or before our trip.
Experience Victorian Days at History San Jose: Tuesday, May 25, 2010
This field trip will accompany our Old Palo Alto/Stanford University field trip. We will travel to San Jose and back in time as students learn about live in 19th-century Santa Clara Valley by doing and comparing activities that children of the time would have engaged in. Students will bake scones, perform duties of servants, dress in Victorian clothing, play parlor games and make a toy to take home. Pictures are welcome! Fee will be $10 per student. Cheques can be made payable to: Matthew Lindner.
If needed, Palo Verde offers scholarship funds for students whose families are experiencing financial difficulty. If this pertains to you, please contact me. I DO NOT want any student to miss out because of financial need.
You may write one check for all three trips if you’d like to. I will keep track of which trips you have paid for. Please note which trip you are paying for on the memo line of your check.

Aurelio,
We will go to the Baylands over in the East Bay and I think we will be going to a planetarium as well. I will have to check with Mrs. Swagerty and Mrs. Cundall to find out for sure.
See you tomorrow!
